The global health crisis continues to touch each of us in profound, unforeseen ways – as individuals, as families, as organisations, as nations and as a global community.
The ITF, too, is feeling the impact, and, sadly, also in ways that affect you, our trusted partners and friends: all of us who were so much looking forward to attending the ITF Summit from 27-29 May on “Transport Innovation for Sustainable Development”.
To my immense regret, the Covid-19 pandemic is now compelling the ITF to postpone the 2020 Summit.
The true value of our Summit is the people who join a global dialogue for better transport from the four corners of the earth. Yet the intensification of the crisis in so many countries, with ever-tightening restrictions on mobility and gatherings, makes it impossible for many of you to attend at the present time.
As a global transport organisation, we understand the shared responsibility for containing the spread of Covid-19. Limiting travel and avoiding physical proximity saves lives. Our primary concern must be to protect the health, safety and well-being of all of those who attend and support the ITF Summit.
Please be assured that the decision to find a new date for the Summit has not been taken lightly. Throughout the process we have exchanged with our member countries, led by Ireland, the ITF 2020 Presidency, and Germany, host country of the Summit, as well as with our colleagues at the Conference Center Leipzig.
We have considered all options very thoroughly. In the end, the best way to ensure that the next ITF Summit will be held in the best possible conditions is to invite you all to join us in Leipzig at new date. We are examining concrete alternatives right now and will keep you updated. I cordially invite you to sign up for ITF Summit Update email alerts to receive the latest information on the ITF Summit.
Wishing you and your close ones all good health as we traverse this crisis together.
